Beginners Scent Detection – Unlock Your Dog’s Natural Instincts! Scent work is a fun, rewarding activity that taps into your dog’s most powerful sense — their nose! This beginner-friendly group course is designed for dogs and owners who are completely new to scent work. Over five weeks, you’ll enjoy a structured, enjoyable introduction to scent detection that strengthens your bond and gives your dog valuable mental enrichment. Dogs experience the world primarily through smell, and using their noses is instinctive, stimulating, and deeply satisfying. Each session encourages focus, problem-solving, and calm engagement. Because sniffing is mentally tiring in a low-arousal way, dogs often finish a session feeling relaxed and content — sometimes as tired as after a long walk! This course is suitable for dogs aged 6 months and over, of all breeds and sizes — including XL Bullies, who can participate safely on lead and wearing a muzzle. Dogs must be comfortable working around other on-lead dogs, as the class is conducted in a small, supportive group setting. Maximum of five dogs per session ensures plenty of personal attention and guidance. During the course, you and your dog will: Learn how to introduce scent work in a structured, practical way Take part in clear, progressive scent search exercises designed to build understanding and confidence Develop calm focus and independent working skills Receive take-home guidance and exercises to continue training at home Scent work is perfect for a wide range of dogs — from energetic pups to older dogs with limited mobility. It’s a low-impact activity that provides real mental stimulation, helping your dog feel fulfilled and happy while also giving you a new, enjoyable way to connect.
