Service Description
The teenage months can be one of the most challenging stages of dog ownership. One day your dog seems to know exactly what they're doing, and the next they're distracted, over-excited, ignoring cues and making choices that leave you wondering what happened to your perfect puppy! Our Teenage Dog Workshop is designed specifically for adolescent dogs and their owners, providing a supportive, practical and educational environment where you can learn how to navigate this important stage of development together. Delivered by qualified trainers and behaviourists Nikki from Positive Steps Dog Training and Wendy from It's a Dog's Life St Helens, this workshop combines expert guidance, real-life learning opportunities and carefully managed dog interactions to help you better understand your dog and build skills that transfer into everyday life. This is not a free-for-all play session. Every aspect of the workshop is designed with learning in mind. You'll gain a deeper understanding of canine body language, adolescent behaviour, arousal levels, social interactions and how to support your dog in a way that builds confidence and promotes calm decision-making. Throughout the workshop we'll explore common teenage dog challenges, including: • Over-excitement around other dogs • Difficulty focusing in distracting environments • Managing arousal and impulsive behaviour • Understanding appropriate dog-to-dog interactions • Building confidence without overwhelming your dog • Recognising stress signals and body language • Supporting calm behaviour in real-life situations • Strengthening your relationship through positive experiences You'll have the opportunity to observe dogs in a structured environment, ask questions, discuss individual challenges and learn practical techniques that can be used long after the workshop has finished. With space for up to 30 dogs, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn in a realistic setting while benefiting from the guidance and support of experienced professionals. Whether your dog is confident and enthusiastic, a little unsure of themselves, or simply navigating the ups and downs of adolescence, this workshop will help you better understand the dog in front of you and provide the tools to support them through this important stage of life.
